The northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy has once again become the target of brutal Russian drone strikes, leaving at least 14 civilians injured. On Friday, April 10, Russian forces launched multiple attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) specifically targeting densely populated residential areas. The deliberate nature of these attacks underscores a continued strategy of terrorizing unarmed civilian populations in Ukrainian border regions.
Oleh Hryhorov, the Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, officially confirmed the aftermath of the assault. According to his statement, the overwhelming majority of the victims from this latest wave of strikes are elderly citizens, a demographic highly vulnerable to the physical and psychological trauma of such explosions.
Among those severely impacted is an 87-year-old woman who sustained injuries from the blast and subsequent structural damage. Medical personnel have transported her to a local medical facility, where she is currently receiving inpatient care. The attack also indiscriminately affected the younger generation; a 14-year-old boy was among the wounded. Fortunately, first responders and emergency medical teams arrived promptly and were able to administer the necessary medical assistance to the teenager at the scene, avoiding the need for hospitalization.
“The enemy is deliberately striking people’s homes in residential neighborhoods,” Hryhorov emphasized, condemning the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Local authorities report that Friday evening saw two direct drone hits on high-rise apartment complexes in Sumy, leading to significant structural degradation and widespread panic among residents. This incident is not an isolated one. Just a week prior, Russian troops executed a similar drone attack on the city. During that assault, a kamikaze drone crashed into the upper floors of another multi-story residential building, igniting a massive fire and leaving at least three individuals wounded.
The persistent targeting of Sumy illustrates a grim reality for Ukrainian border communities, who face daily threats from Russian aerial bombardments.
