The convicted individual was found guilty of acting as an informant for Russian military intelligence (widely known as the GRU) and actively correcting devastating enemy strikes on her own city. Alongside the lengthy prison term, the court ordered the full confiscation of her property. The official details of the counterintelligence operation and subsequent sentencing were released by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
Kramatorsk, a critical logistical and defensive hub in the Donetsk region, remains a frequent target of severe Russian bombardments. According to the extensive evidence gathered by the SBU, this local woman played a direct and lethal role in facilitating these attacks. Her primary task was to gather and transmit precise geographical coordinates to her Russian handlers, enabling the occupation forces to adjust fire for guided aerial bombs (KABs), kamikaze drones, and heavy artillery. By doing so, she placed both Ukrainian defenders and countless innocent civilians at imminent risk of death or severe injury.
The investigation shed light on the recruitment methods utilized by Russian intelligence agencies, highlighting the dangers of weaponized social media. The woman initially caught the attention of GRU operatives through her highly active and unapologetic pro-Kremlin online presence. She frequently posted comments in thematic groups on ‘Odnoklassniki’—a Russian social networking platform banned in Ukraine but often accessed via VPNs. In her posts, she systematically justified the armed aggression and war crimes committed by Russian forces against her own country.
Once formally recruited, the agent operated under strict instructions from a specialized Russian intelligence officer. To avoid suspicion, she would casually walk through the streets of the frontline city under the guise of an ordinary pedestrian. During these patrols, she covertly identified and mapped the specific geolocations, defensive positions, and movements of the Ukrainian Defense Forces stationed in the area.
Her espionage activities were successfully intercepted and neutralized by SBU counterintelligence officers, who detained her red-handed in June as she attempted to transmit a new set of coordinates for an impending strike. Following a thorough legal process, the court convicted the perpetrator of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and the systematic justification of Russia’s armed aggression (Article 436-2, Parts 2 and 3).
