The main stage of the university admission campaign has officially begun in Ukraine. Starting July 19, applicants have been able to submit their applications for bachelor’s degree programs through their personal electronic portals. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, students must approach the process with extreme caution, as the system of priorities allows for limited changes once a submission is finalized.
Applicants are entitled to submit up to 10 requests, with no more than five designated for state-funded (budget) spots. Each application must be assigned a priority rank, where ‘1’ represents the highest preference. Ministry officials warn that canceling an application does not restore the priority rank, and accepting a spot based on a higher-priority choice automatically nullifies potential offers from lower-priority selections.
Regional coefficients have also been implemented to support higher education institutions in vulnerable regions. Universities in the Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions benefit from a 1.07 coefficient, while those in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Chernihiv regions have a 1.04 coefficient. This measure aims to balance the educational landscape amidst the ongoing Russian invasion.
Special quotas exist for vulnerable groups, including orphans, individuals with disabilities, and residents of territories currently affected by active combat or under occupation. It is essential for these applicants to verify their status within the state database before submitting their initial request to ensure that all benefits and quotas are applied correctly.
Critical dates for the current admission cycle are approaching. Lists of recommended candidates for state-funded spots will be released by August 6. Successful applicants must confirm their chosen institution by August 11, with formal enrollment processes concluding by August 13. However, universities will continue to accept contract-based applications until October 15, allowing for flexibility in a challenging socio-economic environment.
Despite the constant threats posed by military aggression, Ukrainian youth remain committed to their academic goals. The resilience shown by both the applicants and the educational institutions is a testament to the nation’s determination to continue its intellectual and professional development even under wartime conditions.
