A high-profile case involving the deputy head of the Rivne Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support has reached the court stage. According to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the official established a systematic bribery scheme to provide draft deferments. The cost of these illegal services ranged from $10,000 to $12,000, even when individuals had legitimate legal grounds for deferment.
The investigation revealed that the official did not limit himself to cash payments. In a notable incident, he received a Toyota Highlander SUV valued at $19,500 from a conscript. The official attempted to hide the asset by using proxy names, but was apprehended by law enforcement before he could finalize the ownership transfer.
Following his detention, the official admitted to the charges and donated 1.5 million UAH to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a likely bid to secure a more lenient sentence. However, the legal consequences remain severe. Under Article 368, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to ten years of imprisonment with the mandatory confiscation of property. The vehicle involved in the case has been seized as physical evidence.
