Ukraine has achieved a massive milestone in domestic defense production, reaching an output of 10 million drones per year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during his address on Ukrainian Statehood Day, July 15 (source: Office of the President of Ukraine). What began as an ambitious and often questioned goal has now become the backbone of Ukraine’s asymmetrical warfare strategy, with plans to double this output to 20 million units annually.
The President emphasized that there are no longer any locations within Russia that remain unreachable for Ukraine’s reach. Every day, approximately 500 Ukrainian drones target critical infrastructure, including oil refineries, shadow fleet tankers, and military facilities deep inside Russian territory. This surge in drone activity has forced Moscow to recalibrate its defensive systems, often leaving strategic areas exposed as they desperately attempt to defend against the constant drone threat.
Ukraine’s success is built upon a decentralized approach involving over 160 domestic companies specializing in various UAV classes. Beyond FPV drones, the country is rapidly developing its own ballistic missile capabilities and advanced long-range strike drones. Zelenskyy highlighted the recent strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery, 2,884 kilometers from Ukraine, as a testament to the technological leap and precision achieved by local engineers and defense industry workers. This distance, once deemed impossible to reach, now represents a new reality for the aggressor.
