A 34-year-old man in Kyiv has been served a notice of suspicion for the repeated sexual abuse of his five young nieces and nephews, as Kyiv police reported. The investigation revealed that the suspect lived in the same apartment with his sister and her children, including a toddler as young as two at the time the abuse began.
According to the prosecution, the crimes occurred between December 2024 and May 2025. The suspect repeatedly targeted three boys and two girls to satisfy his sexual impulses. The family was already under the supervision of social services due to concerns over child neglect; however, the horrific truth only surfaced after neighbors reported that the children were being left unattended.
Following these reports, the mother and children were placed in a social-psychological rehabilitation center for assessment. During professional counseling sessions, the eldest child disclosed the abuse, prompting further revelations from the other siblings. All five children have since been removed from the household and placed under state protection to ensure their safety and mental recovery.
The Kyiv court has remanded the suspect in custody without the possibility of bail. Under current Ukrainian legislation, he faces up to life imprisonment for the crimes committed against minors. Investigative efforts are now focused on determining whether the children’s mother was aware of the abuse and failed to report it, as her potential negligence is a central point of the ongoing inquiry.
This disturbing case highlights the significant challenges faced by social services in monitoring high-risk families. Public discourse is shifting towards more stringent oversight, as the protection of vulnerable children remains a priority in the broader context of societal security in Ukraine.
