Ukraine is taking active steps to prevent Russia from using occupied territories as leverage to prolong the war indefinitely. As reported by the President’s Office, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his evening address on June 24 that Kyiv is implementing a calculated strategy to dismantle Russia’s hold on southern Ukraine and the Crimean Peninsula.
“We do not allow Russia to use our land as a tool to drag out the war. Our operation, particularly regarding Crimea, is clearly calculated,” Zelenskyy said. He emphasized that the current trajectory of the conflict validates Ukraine’s chosen approach. By systematically targeting logistics and military infrastructure, Ukraine aims to force Moscow into a position where continuing the occupation becomes unsustainable.
During recent G7 consultations, the Ukrainian leadership discussed critical support measures that could fundamentally alter the battlefield dynamics. According to the President, obtaining specific assistance from Western allies is the final hurdle to creating conditions that would compel the Kremlin to choose peace. “If Ukraine receives exactly what we discussed with our partners, we will quickly ensure conditions that force Russia to choose peace,” Zelenskyy noted.
Analysts emphasize that the focus on Crimea is not coincidental. By neutralizing the peninsula’s defensive depth and threatening its logistics, Kyiv is exposing the fragility of Russia’s rear areas.
