The Russian occupation forces in Ukraine have suffered another wave of heavy casualties, losing 1,310 personnel killed and wounded in just 24 hours, according to the official operational update released by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This brings the total estimated casualties of the Russian military since the beginning of the full-scale invasion to approximately 1,381,430 personnel. These massive daily losses highlight the ongoing intensity of the fighting across the frontline, as Moscow continues to rely heavily on high-casualty infantry assaults to secure marginal territorial gains.
In addition to manpower losses, Russia’s military hardware is being depleted at an unsustainable rate. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defense forces successfully destroyed 1 main battle tank (bringing the total to 12,015), 11 armored fighting vehicles (24,739), and 88 artillery systems (43,953). There was also a notable spike in the neutralization of operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, with 2,164 Russian drones shot down in a single day, raising the total to 347,033. This surge in drone losses reflects the increasingly technological nature of the war, where unmanned systems are dominant in reconnaissance, targeting, and direct engagement on the battlefield.
Military analysts suggest that the high attrition rate of Russian artillery and armored vehicles is creating severe shortages along the frontline. Although Russia’s defense industry has shifted to a war footing, it struggles to replace modern equipment at the rate it is being destroyed. Consequently, the Russian military is increasingly forced to rely on older, refurbished Soviet-era equipment drawn from long-term storage facilities.
Furthermore, the sheer volume of personnel losses poses a significant long-term challenge for the Kremlin. Relying on financial incentives and covert recruitment to replenish its forces, Moscow avoids declaring a full mobilization due to potential political backlash. However, as casualty figures continue to climb, the sustainability of this attrition-based strategy remains highly questionable. Ukraine’s focus on high-tech warfare, domestic drone production, and precision strikes against logistics hubs continues to erode the offensive capabilities of the Russian forces.
