On the night of June 11, the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai was targeted by a significant drone strike, triggering a massive fire at the strategic facility. According to Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels, including Exile Nova Plus, local residents reported a series of powerful explosions and multiple direct hits on the plant. This operation marks another milestone in Ukraine’s ongoing, systematic campaign aimed at crippling the Russian energy infrastructure that fuels Moscow’s war machine.
Military analysts and Russian OSINT sources reported that the strike was carried out using advanced reactive unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), several of which managed to bypass local air defense systems. The attack was prolonged, with explosions occurring at intervals of five to seven minutes. In nearby Krasnodar, the resulting shockwaves shattered windows in several residential buildings. Local authorities also reported that falling debris damaged private property and disrupted a gas pipeline, requiring immediate emergency response.
The Afipsky refinery is a critical asset for the Russian military. With an annual processing capacity of 7.2 million tons of crude oil—representing over 2% of Russia’s total refining output—the facility specializes in producing diesel, gasoline, and aviation kerosene. These fuels are essential for supplying Russian armored vehicles and aircraft operating on the southern front. This is not the first time the Afipsky facility has been hit. Earlier this year, a drone strike damaged the primary crude distillation unit, AT-22/4. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the refinery has been targeted more than ten times, making it one of the most frequently struck energy facilities in Russia, alongside the Ilsky and Tuapse refineries.
According to Ukrainian officials, the strategic location of the Afipsky refinery makes it a primary logistics hub for the Russian army.
